With a severe cyclonic storm predicted to hit Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Nandankanan Zoological Park has initiated extensive preparations to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals.
Nandankanan Zoological Park:
- Location: Located near Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
- Inauguration: Opened in 1960.
- Global Recognition: First zoo in India to join the World Association of Zoos & Aquariums (WAZA).
- Breeding Centre: Known for successful breeding of endangered species such as the Indian pangolin, white tigers, leopards, lions, vultures, and the Indian gharial.
- Conservation Efforts: Established the world’s first captive crocodile breeding center, breeding gharials successfully in 1980.
- Botanical Garden: Hosts the State Botanical Garden, which plays a crucial role in plant conservation and nature education in Odisha.
